How a GAL Volunteer can help Nate:
The first thing a volunteer Guardian ad Litem (GAL) will do is get to know Nate. The GAL stays child focused by meeting first with Nate, and learning what he wants. He will spend time talking to Nate, learning about his likes and dislikes, and most importantly, about his family. The GAL also learns everything he can about why Nate is in foster care. |
|
| 49 Williamsburg County children were in foster care on June 30, 2007.* Our volunteers are ordinary people who do extraordinary things for these most vulnerable children. | |||

Nate tells his volunteer that he is 12 years old. He's been raised by his single mom his entire life. They are very close. He says she has a drug problem, but he really misses her. He wants her to get help so they can be a family again. He's never met his father. The GAL talks to Nate's teachers, and finds he has been struggling in school. He moved around a lot when he lived with his mother, and often had to stay home with her. The GAL will speak with Nate's family to get their side of the story. Nates mom tells the GAL that she has a drug problem, but would like to get help. She loves Nate, and wants to get him back as soon as possible. She doesn't know where Nate's father is.
